This is the home page of pianist and composer Paul D.S. DiGiorgio |
Midnight Lover - (Poster March 26, 2009) I wrote this piece years ago, back in high school, for a close friend of mine named Marette. It was originally a purely piano piece, but I've added the strings to smooth it out a bit.
Native & Heavy - (Posted March 25, 2009) This is a soundtrack clip, where I've created a texture of overlapping drums & Apache chants.
The River's Edge - (Posted March 24, 2009) Another waltz, this one in A flat minor. I had a lot of trouble coming up with a name for this one, and finally kept coming back to a comment that my cousin Karen made when she first heard it, 4 or 5 years ago. She said it sounded like water, and that always stayed with me as I worked on it.
Little Girl - When my first daughter Sarah was a little baby I used to hum this melody to her. It has words, but I've always thought my lyrics sounds like they were written by a 10 year old. When she's old enough, I'm going to ask Sarah to write lyrics herself. Maybe she'll sing it to her kids! She's only 7, but I'm sure it will happen before Elizabeth and I know it.
Caroline's Melody - When my wife's cousin and her
husband, Maureen and Gary, had their first baby, I decided to try and write
something for her. When Liz and I announced that we were going to get married,
they were so wonderful and supportive of us. I wanted to try and give them a
little gift. It was the first time I had ever started with nothing, and said,
"I'm going to write a song for this person...".
I wrote the chorus first, in a nice happy major key (I wrote this song in b
Major). however, the verse ended up in the minor key (g minor). When you listen
to it, I think it sounds like some sad song at first! I tried a few different
ways to end it up off the chorus, to leave it with a nice happy feeling, but I
have yet to figure out a good way to do it.
Needless to say, Caroline is a beautiful, happy & healthy young girl. So when
you listen to this, please don't think that the minor key has anything to do
with sadness.
Nick's Melody - When I first met Nick, my friend Kim's son, this song jumped right into my head. It was completed in about three seconds. All I had to do was record it.
Moonlight -
When I upgraded my music setup, I first went the Korg
Triton route. It's a really nice series of professional composition stations. I
already owned a Yamaha P80, which is a basic electronic piano, so I picked up
the Triton Rack unit. A rack unit is basically a keyboard without the keys, and
you play (trigger) it from another keyboard.
Using this setup I wrote a few things. But I was never happy with the 'natural'
sounds, such as piano, strings, etc. It was great for writing these kind of
pieces though, quick little sequences with some drums and cool sounds behind the
melody.
Remember Tomorrow - This is a waltz in G flat major. I love the flowing feel of a 3-time or a 6-time piece. They makes me feel like I'm kind of dancing inside while I'm playing them.
